Q. How much did you like the last point?
A. I think that was a little bit lucky, the last point. I was fighting to stay in the match, and I had a lot of chances in the second set on my own serve. I had a few points to make it 4-3, and then again to 5-4, it was a close game, I had 30-0 again. So, yes, I mean, the last point was just - it's just - she's so talented and then everything works, you know.
Q. Was it frustrating when you run and run and always the - the answer is always a little bit better?
A. Well, not so frustrating. Maybe at the same time, yes, but I told myself, well, when I was in the shower, I told myself I'll just have to work harder, and try to be able - try to practise a lot with guys, so I can play at the same level, because she's just a little bit better than most of us. She just hits the ball a little bit earlier, a little bit faster, and, I mean, sometimes in the match also I felt like I had to hit extra good shots, just a normal point wasn't enough, and then that's why I tried to overhit it sometimes.
Q. Looking at how easily she is playing here on grass, do you think she lost a big chance in Paris?
A. In the finals?
Q. Yes.
A. Well, I don't know what happened. I heard she was tired, because she had long matches before. I'm sure physically, especially on clay, it's much tougher to play a lot of matches. So I don't know, I mean getting to the finals already was not so bad. I didn't see the match.
Q. Do you think her game is well suited for grass courts?
A. It is. Actually, it's suited for every court. Of course she doesn't have the big serve, like most of the good guys that are playing, I mean, the good grass court players do. But she's - I mean, she has very good hands, she's at the net, she plays an aggressive game, and she can do so much with the balls, so I think she can do as well here as in the other Grand Slams.
Q. If you have to play again now the same match, what do you change in your game?
A. Well, the most important thing was that I didn't keep enough first serves in. I think my percentage of first serves was much too low. That's the most important thing in this match. Other than that, I think she was just better. There's not so much I could have done different. It was just that today she was better.
Q. Could you share what she said after the match? The two of you were laughing as you went off right in front of us.
A. Yes, I told her, "How many more matches do you have today", and she said, "Two", and I said, "Well, so do I", so she said, she joked, "Well, I'm happy it was a quick match, because I have to play two more matches".
Q. Sabine, when she says something like that, it strikes us as almost being arrogant, but it seems like she's very popular among the players?
A. She is. I mean, she talks to everybody, she's nice to everybody. Yes, I mean of course she has a lot of confidence. She's the number one player in the world. I think, without that attitude, maybe she wouldn't get so far. But, I mean, she talks to everybody. It's like she's one of the players.
Q. So there isn't a feeling, when she says that, "I cannot believe this kid is so arrogant", it's not like that, it's like she believes in herself and that's fine?
A. Exactly. Maybe without that attitude she wouldn't get to be number 1. Maybe I should have a little bit more of that.
Q. After your last match, you thought you should try to move her. It seems it was the other way round.
A. Yes, exactly. Especially in the first few games, I think it was a little bit of a disadvantage for me to play the first match, because I only got to hit fifteen minutes this morning, which is, I mean, not enough, especially in the morning. I need a little bit of time to get my body going, and in the beginning, I was running, running, and I felt like she was taking me - I mean, I felt like physically I couldn't do this for the whole match. So it's true, I mean, I try to hit a little bit of drop shots, and I think I made a few points with that, but other than that, she's the one who was controlling the game.
Q. She is so young. How much better do you think she can get?
A. How much better? Well, she's only 16, so I'm sure she can still improve. I think she can still improve her serve. If she gets more power, she's definitely going to improve that. And it's true, I mean, she has a very complete game, but, if she gets more power, she can maybe hit the ball even harder. It's not like she's hitting the ball so hard now. It's just good timing, and good placement.
Q. Other than her talent, the way she plays the full court and her all round game, has anybody else in your career played like that that you can remember over the course of your career?
A. Well, not really, because I mean the other players have to work really hard on the court. If you see Seles and Graf, they really have to work. They move very well. Everything seems so easy for Martina. She's always in the right position. It doesn't look like she has to work very hard on the court, and that's the difference with the other players. No, I don't think I've seen anyone like her. She's unique also.
