Q. Martina, what was it like to finally get on court after all the waiting?
A. Yes, it was great. I mean, to play on centre, and the first match was over, like, in almost ten minutes, and then I couldn't really believe it, that I'm on the court, on playing, because at quarter to 12 we were still at the house and we practised in the morning and then all of a sudden they call my manager and later on the referee, "It will be better maybe if you come to the courts and have a look if you may play". It was good.
Q. What did you do during all the delays the last couple of days?
A. Not too much. Most of the time we stayed in the house, or I've been practising, playing one and a half hours a day indoors, and I rented some videos and I've been watching videos at night. And we went to the city a little bit, to Kings Road, shopping. But that was like lucky, because I could play my first match, and the other ones were preferred, because they didn't play even first matches. So I knew they cancelled me at first, so I didn't ever stay too long. So it was great to play again.
Q. How do you think you played?
A. I played pretty good. I mean, I practise on the carpet, and it was pretty fast, and when you come from indoors to outside on grass, it was almost, like, slow, because grass isn't one of the fastest surfaces. But this time I had enough time against her to take the points and just take it easier. She gave me much more space than Anne Kremer did, and I could make my shots.
Q. Are you still thinking about "you and me"?
A. No. It's 100 per cent. I'm not scared any more. On grass, you always have to be a little bit careful, because you dream for a couple of days, as everyone knows, and you still are a little bit scared, because sometimes it's a little bit more bad when it's on grass, but on the baseline it's already a little bit brown, so it doesn't slip.
Q. Was the cold weather a problem today?
A. Cold weather, yes, in the dressing room it was pretty cold at the beginning, because I just came here and didn't have the same warm-up, and it was pretty cold. When we stepped on the court, we were both kind of a little freezing, but, as you start the game, you get hot very soon.
Q. Martina, you face the prospect of perhaps five matches in seven days next week, and that is if the weather improves. What are your thoughts about that?
A. I don't have any problems with that. I think the physical part is not that bad, especially not on grass, where the points are not that long, you don't have to move that much, and it's like a normal tournament. It's not like a Grand Slam now almost - well, now I played already two matches, but now if I'm going to be in the finals where you never can say, you never see in the future, but playing one match after the other one is like the usual tournaments.
Q. Martina, you have many, many strikes to your game, but what is the one thing, the one strong point of your game that you like the best, that you think is your biggest asset?
A. I think I can see the court pretty well, my anticipation is pretty good, where the ball might go, and I see the whole court and then I see what she's doing, where she's moving around, and then I just see the free spot and try to get it there, and most of the time it works, but being from the baseline, I have a very fast game.
Q. Is that something that you can work on and practise, or does your doubles help that? How did you develop that?
A. It's both. I mean, doubles, it always helps to get your game a little bit more aggressive, as today I went to the net a couple of times. You're not afraid of volleys, and that's what I'm not, even if you make some mistakes, but you make more points, you just make your space to do it. I don't have problems with that, but in practice, you also can improve it a lot.
Q. Martina, were you embarrassed by some of the revealing pictures in the British press of you after your first round match?
A. If you saw also the other pictures of Diana, I think it was The Mirror, so you're not very - I mean, you just take it as it is. It's nothing special, and I know it wasn't great, the dress, the shorts were pretty short, but I'm always good for any good advice or changes. I think today I look much better. It helps sometimes, you know. You don't see yourself on the court.
Q. Did you deliberately change your shorts today?
A. Well, you could see it.
Q. Do you have a different feeling when you walk on the court now that you are you're a number 1 player and now you've won a Grand Slam championship, is it any different than in the old days?
A. Well, it is a little bit different. I'm like more self-confident, because I won a Grand Slam already, I'm number 1 in the world, at my young age. So I still want to compete well, or play my best tennis at any of these tournaments, but now I'm not the hunting one, now I'm the hunted one. Everyone wants to beat me, and of course I want to beat them again.
